Under the Human Resources Manager’s supervision and as part of the support unit, the senior translator’s main role will be to translate and/or to review translated documents, and to provide oral translation upon request (English-Arabic and vice versa).  The translator will thus contribute indirectly to the development and implementation of the mission’s activities. He or she will work in close collaboration with the mission’s staff members to ensure that the domain specific technical vocabulary is applied appropriate.

1.         Translation of documents

The translator will be asked to translate specific documents with high accuracy using the correct technical terminology.

The documents when translated, should maintain the layout and formatting of the original documents, unless instructed otherwise by the requester.

The translator will be asked to review documents that have been translated to improve the quality of the translations, either on employment or service contracts.

3.         Oral translation

The translator will be asked to provide oral translation on occasion (English-Arabic  and vise versa) whenever needed.

Note that this job description must remain flexible, to respond to additional tasks or changes as identified by the line manager.

•          Certified Translator (English-Arabic- Arabic English)

•          First university  Degree in English

•          Minimum two years’ experience in written and oral translation

•          Good computer skills

•          Experience with an INGO preferred

•          Knowledge of specific terminology related to areas of interventions of HI

•          Ability to work within a team and collaborate

•          Ability to communicate effectively

•          Motivated, dynamic; able and willing to make suggestions

•          Independence, time and workload management

•          Willing to learn and develop professionally

•          Open and interested in disability issues

– Arabic and English mandatory (oral and written)

HI will offer the successful applicant a limited non- renewable contract for maximum of 4 months until the job holdr returns from matirnetry leave.

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with HI Terms and Conditions of Employment.
