OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMMETo interrupt the transmission of wild poliovirus globally by leading the global effort of national governments and the global polio eradication partnership. The External Relations team supports the development, and implementation of the overall strategy and framework for resource mobilization, communications and advocacy for the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI).Description Of Duties

  • Ensure full compliance of HR activities with WHO rules and regulations, policies, procedures and strategies; effective implementation of the internal control and functioning of the HR management system.2. Advise the Polio Team Leader on all aspects of HR policies and procedures including proper use of contractual modalities.3. Provide substantive input to HR planning and forecasting of the staffing needs and facilitate and monitor the recruitment of non-staff (LICA and CTC TEXT)4. Support management of agency contracts with third-party vendors such as LICA and CTC.5. Support selection processes for WHO’s Polio Eradication programme including drafting position descriptions establishment of positions in GSM, issuance of vacancy announcements, screening of candidates, interview panels and related activities.6. Develop and manage rosters for local positions.7. Provide orientation programmes and briefing to newcomers.8. Monitor contract’s expiry dates, initiate and follow up on requests for extensions.9. Advise supervisors and staff in understanding and using the performance appraisal system and provide performance management advice to staff & managers; flag any issues to the Regional Office10. Report to the Regional Office on Danger pay, Location verification, Dependency verification and other HR issues as required.11. Act as a liaison between the Regional Office and the WHO Country Office on all HR related matters.

Required QualificationsEducationEssential: University degree in human resources management, public or business administration, Law, social science, or related field.Desirable: Knowledge of HR policies and practices in the UN Common System.ExperienceEssential: At least two years’ experience in the field of human resources management services or positions involving HR management in the field and/or emergency response situations.Desirable: Relevant experience in WHO, the UN SystemSkillsKnowledge of human resources management policies, practices and procedures and ability to apply them in the country office setting.

The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 50,377 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 1620 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.Additional Information
