Summary of Duties:

The Canadian Trade Commissioner Service (www.tradecommissioner.gc.ca) is a world-wide network of professionals in international business development, with preferred access to business knowledge and contacts, who are committed to advancing Canadian interests abroad.  The Trade Commissioner Assistant is responsible for providing scheduling, research and administrative support with the following specific accountabilities:

  • manage and track flow of information and quality control of documentation;
  • budget tracking and management;
  • development/maintenance of the Trade Commissioner Service client service policies and electronic tools;
  • initiate and respond to communications with clientele (business contacts, trade organizations and government agencies in Jordan and in Canada);
  • event planning and organization;
  • research and develop reports/ briefings;
  • interpretation and translation support

 

Area of selection/Eligibility:

Open to external applicants eligible to work in Jordan and individuals currently occupying an indeterminate or term position in the Mission who meet all of the essential qualifications and whose applications are received by the closing date.

Essential qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of experience, qualification and/or training

Language:

  • Fluency in English (read, write and speak)
  • Fluency in Arabic (read, write and speak)

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years recent* experience working in an office environment and/or dealing with the public on the phone and/or in person.

*Recent is defined as 3 years within the last 5 years.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of standard office procedures and practices
  • Knowledge of office software packages (e.g. Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel)

Asset Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates who have the following asset qualifications:

  • Diploma/Degree with a specialization in administration or business
  • Experience working for an embassy or an international organization
  • Fluency in French (written & oral)

If candidates meet the factors listed in the asset qualifications they must also clearly demonstrate how they meet these factors in their covering letter.

Operational Requirements:

  • Must be willing to work occasional irregular hours and overtime and sometimes be available on call outside normal business hours.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Applicants must hold a valid working authorization covering the period of employment. If the employment is of an indeterminate nature, or becomes indeterminate, then the work authorization should be permanent or lead by itself to permanent work authorization.  The Canadian Government cannot sponsor a candidate to obtain work authorization documents.
  • Obtain and retain an enhanced reliability clearance (security clearance).  The appointment of the successful candidate will be subject to Medical Clearance and Reliability Check (RC) obtained by the Administration and Security sections of the Embassy
